Right before Ash Wednesday there is Mardi Gras, also known as Carnaval,
a time when, traditionally, all the fat in the house had to be eaten
before Lent (thus all the feasting and the Shrove Tuesday pancake
breakfasts) - well, in many parts of Europe, this is basically the day
that everyone gets to dress up and go wild. We've been to
Carnaval celebrations - in Aalst, in Binche, in Italy, in Germany, and here are some shots from how
they celebrate Carnaval at John and Lydia's school.
Lydia's class eating a pancake
breakfast. The entire school comes dressed up that day, and
everyone has a great time.
