The Cologne Zoo

Well, since we couldn't visit all the museums and the like in Cologne, we decided to visit the zoo instead, figuring that it would be open.

Learning to move a butterfly onto your finger.  The trick is to gently nudge the butterflies front legs with your finger, but to avoid hitting the antennae - if you do that, the butterfly will often just move its legs onto your finger.
John, having followed the technique perfectly - in this case, at least, no additional reward was necessary.

Inside the reptile house, watching the crocodiles.  They were fascinating - they barely moved - in fact, for a while, we thought that they were fake, until one blinked its eyes!  (We saw more crocodiles in France)

Visiting the penguins - they didn't seem to mind the cold too much!
It was incredible watching them swim - the really looked like a little bullet, the way they shot so quickly
through the water.
