Andrew's house in Ridgway, Colorado
Christmas morning, after spending Christmas Eve in airports (Brussels,
Chicago, Denver) and then in a hotel in Silverthorne, we drove off to
Andrew's house in Ridgway for Christmas. Ridgway is in Western
Colorado, kind of in the middle of nowhere, but with beautiful
mountains surrounding. Below is a shot taken from Andrew's house,
with Andrew and John in his hot tub (which was quite a hit, especially
with John!). Below that, some scenes from our trip further up in
the mountains, where we are sitting on some land he has bought (up at
11,000 feet). All in all, though it is rather remote, the beauty
of the area is unmistakeable.
We also visited the town of Ouray,
with its hot springs. It was really weird - the air temperature
was literally freezing, and there we
were, in our bathing suits, swimming in water which ranged from 70 or
so degrees all the way up to 120 degrees! The water
felt quite hot at first, but it was actually quite pleasant after a
while - just to sit and chat in the middle of winter in a bathing suit!
On a hike in the surrounding area,
with Andrew, me (Mark), Karen, and Lydia and John in front.
Below, Karen and I went out for the
day, all bundled up with the kids. We hiked along a snow covered
road along the valley, with the gorgeous scenery all around.
Poor John - despite staying in the
house of a well-to-do ER doc, he still had to
go to sleep in a cardboard box...
