Copper Mountain, Colorado

Since the kids had done so well with their cross country skis, we thought we would try them out on downhill skis too - so off we went to Copper Mountain for the day, and got the kids all geared up with kid-sized downhill skis, boots, a helmet - the whole works.  They happily went off to the their lesson (the whole - starting at 10am or so, a break for lunch, then back out in the afternoon) - below you can see John and he tries to negotiate the downhill.  Lydia, on the other hand, tried some skiing in the morning, ate lunch, then said she was tired and colored for the rest of the afternoon - I guess there's not going to be an Olympic gold skiing medal in her future...

While the kids were off in their lesson, and Heather and David were burning up the slopes in their normal fashion, Karen and I went out to the (now unmaintained) Copper cross country ski course, which turned out to be beautiful!  Miles of trails, up into the hills, fresh, powdery, snow where no one had been for days, and just the two of us in the great outdoors.  We had a great time.
