Silverthorne, Colorado (first week of January, 2006)

A view of Silverthorne at night, taken from the Wildernest division (the house we stay at is about 9 miles
North of here).  This was taken on our final night after snowshoeing in the area.

The Silverthorne house is a great place to relax and enjoy nature.  It borders a national park, and there is always plenty of hiking in the area, along with plenty of snow.  In the past, we had always put John and/or Lydia in a gear sled which we would drag behind us, but this year we thought that they might be old enough to start learning skiing themselves, so off we went to our favorite ski shop (Recycle Ski Shop), and bought both of them their very first pair of cross country skis and poles.  They were very happy to be trying them out, and weren't even too upset when they first discovered that staying upright isn't quite as easy as it looks.

Off to try some more challenging terrain!  This time the sled came with us, just in case
anyone got tired.  We didn't get too far - terrain was a little bit too tough for the kids - and,
from the looks of it, it was a little too tough for Granddad too! :)
