Refuge Vittorio Sella

In early June we traveled down to Italy for a weekend to see our dear friends, Silvia and Stefano (who we've seen in Switzerland, Italy (02), Italy (04), and Belgium).  While there, we went out in to the Italian Alps with them and another set of friends, Dario and Paula, and spent the night at the Vittorio Sella refuge (pictured below).  The trip was great - John and Lydia thought it was great fun to spend the night in the refuge (in a 12 person room, just big enough for the three families together) and they got along well with the other kids.  Gabriele (Dario and Paula's oldest) spoke some English, and, over many games of Uno, he got to practice his English with John while John learned Italian from him and Anna (Silvia and Stefano's oldest)

On the left, Stefano (with Marco on his back), then Karen (with John and Lydia in front),
then Paula and Dario (with Simone and Gabriele in front), then Silvia (with Anna in front)

Two sirens, luring unwitting hikers... :)

Some views of the surroundings - life was tough that weekend...

We were in the Gran Paradiso national park, whose symbol is the Stambecci - just walking
around, we saw plenty of reason why!!
