A visit to Dinant

Well, after our exciting trip to the Dinant Emergency Room with John to get stitches in his forehead after his fall (see Veves), what would any kind, concerned parents do?  How would a loving Aunt and cousin react?

The answer is simple: go sightseeing!

Off to the town of Dinant, with John freshly patched up:

Overlooking the town of Dinant, from the fortress above the town
Note the bandage still on John's forehead!

Views from the town of the fortress and the church (yes, another church!)  See the churches we saw in Rome...
The fortress was built hundreds of years ago and was used to control trade and traffic on the river and to extort tolls from passing ships
During WWII it was the scene of some very intense hand-to-hand combat between French and German troops, eventually falling to the Germans

Inside the fortress, a recreation of a bunker.  The ground nearby was hit by a bomb which affected
the foundation of the bunker, thus causing it to shift, until it came to rest at a 35 degree (or so) angle
It was really freaky walking through it - I had to fight every instinct I've learned about walking to try
and adjust to the fact that everything was askew.  They recommend that people with heart conditions
not enter this room, and, after doing it, I can see why.
