Keukenhof (in the Bollenstreek)

In the past, the keukenhof area was a traditional garden for a castle kitchen (the name literally means kitchen garden) where herbs and the like were grown to season the food.  Today it is basically a flower show, where every year thousands of tulips and tourists come together for a bit of mutual admiration.

The kids thought this was great!  This park was clearly made for the two of us!
The two, looking very Dutch in the woorden shoes.

An orchid, from the orchid section of the show.  There was an indoor greenhouse with all different flowers, including plenty of orchids - John
loved this section and wanted to take closeup photos of ALL the flowers - we restrained him a little, but, with a digital camera,
let's just say we have a lot of closeups which didn't make it onto the web site, for good reason...

The general flower show - acres of outdoor wandering through the many dispalys of colorful flowers.  This would be a florist's dream,
but for us, we just enjoyed the grounds and all the different shapes and colors and arrangements of the flora.

The hedge maze - not a huge one, but quite fun nonetheless.  Karen is up a on a bridge taking a picture of us.
Karen and Lydia on the funny wooden platforms just below the water - from a distance, it really looks like all these folks are walking on water!
