Tulips!

True to form, Karen decided, once again, that the perfect thing to do with Mark after an overnight flight from the US was to make him go camping, so she packed up the car, tossed in Mark and the kids, and off we went to our lodging for the weekend:
The area we went to was called the Bollenstreek (the bulb area) - the region of the Netherlands where many of the tulips and other flowers are grown.  The kids thought it was great!

Our lodging for the evening - with the kids eating breakfast while waiting for Daddy to get up (he does have an excuse,
given that he had just returned from the US and was more than a little tired from the flight...)
Our tent in the bollenstreek

We happened to go on Koninginsdag (Queen's Day), a holiday in the Netherlands with lots of parades, street fairs, street markets, and a general festive atmosphere.  We spent most of a day just wandering around - Karen bought a bike bar (to attach Lydia's bicycle to ours), which she had been looking for, while Mark picked up a few beer glasses at nice prices (and he then confirmed that the right beer fit in the glasses nicely!)
A flower display - one of about 10.  I couldn't resist the bridge
motif ("troef" means trump in Dutch)

John and Daddy on the bumper cars - John loved it!
