Barcelona's famous architect Gaudi

Antoni Gaudi was one of Barcelona's most famous architects in the early 1900s (he died in 1926)  He was known for his unusual architectural style, a very wavy style, quite unlike others of his time.

Below, the Sagrada Familia, a cathedral designed by Gaudi, in the heart of Barcelona.  The architecture is very different than most churches - many many spires (not just one or two), clusters of fruit at the top of some, close ups (like the left) showing it looks a bit like a sandcastle, etc.  Overall this is a very popular spot - even in November the wait to go in was quite long, so we contented ourselves with seeing the outside.

Another Gaudi building - note the curves everywhere (no straight lines to be seen)

Another Gaudi creation - an innovative set of balconies by the windows

Parc Guell, also designed by Gaudi

A sign by the parc that was likely never intended by Gaudi!
