The inclined plane at Ronquieres

Belgium is a land of canals, and what would canals be without locks?  However, on certain stretches of the canals, even the locks can get tiresome (if there are too many), so one searches for an alternative...

But how do you get the boats up a hill like this?




Simple - drive the boat into a big bathtub, then move the whole bathtub up the hill!
Note the construction of the container, the way the bottom is sloped to match the incline of the hill,
thus keeping the water (and the boat) perfectly level while the entire contraption moves either up or down the inclined plane!
This avoids ~17 locks along the canal and saves several hours on the trip...
