Philae temple, Aswan

We arrived in Aswan in the morning and then set out (almost immediately) for Philae temple, built for the worship of the goddess Isis.
The location of the temple was actually flooded by the creation of the Aswan high dam, so the temple was relocated so that it could be preserved.

The kids, with our tour guide, doing a play about the Egyptian gods and goddesses.
They weren't the most serious of actors/actresses, but they had fun.

A wall of the temple, with the carving of the various gods.
Other areas of the temple had been desecrated in the early centuries AD, when Christians (fleeing persecution) hid here and wanted to erase
the signs of the pagan Egyptian gods.  Another memory of these times is a series of crosses carved into the walls.

A room to house the Emperor Trajan on his travels, although he never actually made it to Philae temple!
At least they were ready for him.
