X:Efteling fairy tale park

Efteling (see photos X:here, but the site is only in Dutch) is an amusement park in the Netherlands which is aimed at children in the 5-10 year age range - it has some rides, but also lots of fairy tale creatures brought to life, such as sleeping beauty, Vrouw Holle, X:Longneck (only in Dutch), and many others (many which were new to us, and for which we've only ever seen the story in Dutch, so who knows how much of it we really understood!)

We went for the first time with Karen's parents in October 2003 and had a great time, even though we probably only saw less than half the park.

Here are John and Karen riding one of the rides (you had to pedal to make these trains move) - the picture is a little blurry because I was riding in another little train with Lydia while I took the picture.  John pedaled the whole ride for Karen - I tried to catch up to them in my train, but I never could because John was pedaling so fast!

And here is Lydia, discovering the giant turtles in Europe:

And here was one of the favorite attractions - inside a hedge maze, a funny bridge - innocent looking, but, as you walk across, jets of water squirt over the bridge!!

The kids thought this was hilarious!  Unfortunately, it took me (Mark) four tries before I could get safely across, by which point I was somewhat wet and in a less forgiving mood...

Finally, that night, we had dinner at Efteling in a VERY kid friendly environment, complete with the kids being invited up on stage to sing songs (X:K3 Toveren, click to listen to the music) - John had a great time!
