X:The Sloten windmill

While in Amsterdam we visited the Molen van Sloten, an example of a windmill designed to elevate water along the series of dikes/canals around Amsterdam.
Inside were models of the windmills showing how they worked, drawings showing the inner workings, along with all the original gearing etc for this windmill.  Underneath it used an X:archimedes screw to raise water a meter or so up to the next higher canal as a part of the entire water transport system surrounding Amsterdam.
