Legoland (Billund, Denmark)

Near the end of our trip we visited Legoland (in Billund, Denmark, where Lego is made).
The park is quite fun - there are tons of miniature things built out of Legos (such as the Copenhagen harbor, [ did that picture fool you on the copenhagen page??? ], Amsterdam, cargo ships going up and down the Rhine (and through working miniature locks!), etc), in addtion to the roller coasters, flume rides, twirly rides, etc.
Also, if you even wanted to buy Legos, here you can mix and match and buy whatever legos you want, by the pound, in addition to finding all the specialty pieces for that special project you're working on.

One of the first things we did was the Legoland traffic school, where the kids get to ride around for 20 minutes or so and need to obey all the traffic rules (roundabouts, traffic lights, stop signs, etc).  This is only open for children 7 and up (so we said that John was 7) and is VERY popular, so we made sure to go by first thing in the morning.  John loved it - he thought this was the greatest thing - and, at the end, he even got his own driver's license!
You'll notice that the cars each have a little flag - each child is marked with a flag to indicate their native language - so the entire time, someone is calling out instructions in about 5 different languages so that all the kids could understand (Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, and German were the most popular, with the occasional English or Dutch or French speaker thrown in).

Lydia was too young for the traffic school, but there was another area set up for
kids her age, which she rather enjoyed.
