| We took the boat out of Gent (Belgium), over the top of
Denmark, and to the Swedish town of Goteburg, from whence we drove
North to Oslo to meet Karen's
parents. [[[ The circled area on
the map is shown in greater detail below. ]]] |

| After some time in Oslo we
travelled North, past Lillehammer, and camped near the town of Otta
(see camping photos). From there we visited Lom (point 2), a scenic little town with a beautiful stave church, then down to Gjende (point 3), were we took a boat trip to a hut and then walked back along the lake. Then back to Lom and and down to Gaupne (point 4) along route 55 - a beautiful road across a high plain which was still quite snow covered (even in July) - from Gaupne we took a daytrip to the Nigardsbreen glacier (see the spur line from 4) - here children as young as six are allowed to go on guided glacier tours. Then down to Kaupanger to take the ferry across the Sognefjord, into the Naeryofjord, and onto Gudvangen - an unforgettable two hour trip. From Gudvangen we went to Flam (point 5) to see the marvel of the Flam-Myrdal railway, a 20 k railway track with one of the steepest grades in the world for a train. From there, further South, across another fjord (only a 10 minute ferry ride this time), then to Voringfoss (point 6), the most scenic waterfall in Norway. From there back to Oslo (with a stop in Geilo first), where we said goodbye to Karen's parents and we went on to Denmark. |
