Belgium is a small country in Northern Europe, a portion of the world well known for its unforgettable climate...



Within Belgium, we are about halfway between Brussels (the capital) and Antwerp (a major port today and in antiquity), which puts us in the middle of Flanders, the Flemish(Dutch)-speaking part of the country.  Other well known cities include Brugge and Gent.


We are South of Mechelen, marked by the red star.  The yellow star marks where our old house was, and the brown briefcase on the red road, just below where it says E19, is where Mark works (the blue area there is an industrial park).  It takes Mark about 20-25 minutes to bicycle to work in the morning.



A close up of our street.  Vrijbroek Park, just to the North-West of us, is our closest playground and a frequent destination.  We are about a 20 minute walk from the center of Mechelen (much less by bike, our preferred means of locomotion).  John's school is marked (north and slightly east of our house), Karen's Dutch class is marked by the blue push pin, Lydia's day care by the black push pin, and our nearest bakery by the red push pin.
